Camden

This tour took place on 1st May 2004, accompanied by Matt, who had a really nasy cough. You wouldn't have caught me out boozing with a rattler like that, but Matt is made of sterner stuff.

Marquess Tavern, Islington

We probably each had a pint of Special.

Beyond the horrors of trendy Islington, and on a leafy road inhabited mainly by Arsenal fans. Good sunny pub. I noticed they had a chess board, but it may have been ornamental. Here's a photo of me in my trademark nervous tortoise stooping neck pose: Picture of Marquess Tavern

Spread Eagle, Camden Town

Bottle of Oatmeal stout, Double Chocolate Stout for Matt.

You can't beat stout when you've got a cold. A little close to the epicenter of Camden, in a looks-very-rich rather than a goth-junkies patch (they seem to alternate every 100 yards or so).

We liked this pub too, although it was more of a big Jenga (didn't see one, but seemed a possibility). They had commercial wine bottles (with adverts on), which caused confusion as I thought they were empties, but never mind.

Queens, Primrose Hill

A few pints of Special - I think. Matt had a pint of Special, then I bought him a Guinness, which he didn't like.

Right near Primrose Hill, and not too easy to find based on street numbers and the A-Z. Bit of a trendy wine bar, but acceptable. We lingered for a few, and then got a cab to the Nepali restaurant near Euston which is distressingly sandwiched between porn emporiums, but otherwise very good.
